The E-100 started off as an alternative design to Porche's Panzer VIII Maus super heavy tank. In design, the E-100 was very much like the Maus, just more mobile, and with less armor. Many of the tank's design aspects were very similar to the Tiger II including the crew layout, as well as the prototype having the same engine as the E-100, although this engine was only meant for the prototype, and not the main production model. The tank would be in development from 1943 to 1944 when Hitler called for the stop of the tank's development due to a lack of raw materials. How ever, three Adler employees would continue to work on the tank. Even with only three workers, the tank was near completion with the only thing missing being it's turret. At the war's end the British army found the prototype at a Henschel facility near the town of Paderborn.
